Sherwood Truck & Van supplies eco-efficient vehicles to bed maker Warren Evans

Ethical furniture manufacturer Warren Evans has ordered 18 environmentally efficient vans from commercial vehicle group Sherwood Truck & Van.

The leading bed, bedding and bedroom furniture producer, which has won a string of awards for its environmental commitments, is adding the new Iveco EcoDaily 35C14 chassis cabs to its delivery fleet.

Helen Waterfall, regional director for Sherwood Truck & Van, which is based at Blackwell near Alfreton in Derbyshire and has dealership sites at Lenton in Nottingham, at Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent, and in Highfield Lane, Sheffield, said: “We were delighted to be able to help Warren Evans as it strives to minimise effects on the environment.

“As well as being an excellent vehicle, the EcoDaily is at the forefront of sustainability and economy. It is ideally suited to the company’s commitment to the environment.”

Sherwood is a leading supplier of new and used commercial vehicles, established in 1978. The company also maintains, services and repairs commercial vehicles across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire and most of Cheshire.

It is now best known as a dealership for Iveco trucks and vans – the second largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in Europe.

Sherwood, part of the Guest Motors Group of Companies, prides itself on its service pedigree with a stock holding of more than 15,000 lines, a fully equipped accident repair centre and 24-hour roadside support.
Ethical and environmentally friendly practices are at the heart of everything Warren Evans does.

The company has been the Sunday Times’ Best Green Company three years running, Best Local Retailer in the 2008 and 2009 Observer Ethical Awards and Premier Award winners in the prestigious BCE (Business Commitment to the Environment) Environmental Leadership Awards.

Founder Warren Evans believes passionately that caring for the environment is compatible with running a healthy business and this applies to everything the Walthamstow-based company does – including its deliveries.

Fleet manager Phil Young said: “We’re long-time Iveco Daily users but this is the first time we’ve sourced our vehicles from Sherwood Truck & Van.

“They come highly recommended and have a strong reputation with others in our industry. We like what we have heard, and we have been led to expect the very highest levels of support, across the board.”

Launched last year, the EcoDaily is certified to EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) standards. These far exceed the minimum Euro 5 emission standards demanded by law.

As well as being cleaner and more than 90% recyclable, the EcoDaily is designed to offer high levels of fuel economy

“Then there’s the driver,” said Mr Young. “Operating in and around London can be stressful at the best of times so we specified a range of innovations designed to minimise that stress.

“Iveco’s AGile automated transmission makes them easier to drive. The Electronic Stability Program minimises braking distances and reduces the risk of skidding.

“Anti-lock braking and Electronic Brake Distribution maximises braking effectiveness and features such as air bags, reversing alarms and cameras maximise driver and bystander safety.”

The EcoDaily vehicles are equipped with lightweight bodies and can take a one-tonne of payload.

Assembled by Erdington-based Portland Commercial Bodies, these are made of Panelite, an environmentally friendly, thermally fused material developed by Dynamic Panel Solutions to offer a high weight/strength ratio.
